IBM Quantum: 19 seconds ahead of more than a century of conventional computing

IBM has achieved a new milestone in quantum computing. The Nighthawk r2 processor generated a million samples in just 19 seconds in a *random circuit sampling* test.

According to the researchers' estimates, reproducing the same calculation with a conventional supercomputer could require around 110 years of computing.

A particularly significant result because the test was performed on a commercially available quantum processor through the IBM cloud and using the standard workflow of the platform.

The results have been published as a preprint and are still pending peer review.

A new step towards real-world applications where quantum computing can offer significant advantages compared to traditional computing.
