Currently, as authorized registrars, we want to inform you that the .ad domain is in a first transition and opening phase. Our goal is to facilitate access for users and simplify the process of obtaining registration, equaling the standards of the .ad domain to those of the most advanced countries. Once this phase is over, a second period will begin with one general availability phase, where everyone can benefit from this new level of access and simplicity.

Requirements for registering a .ad domain at any stage

To register a .ad domain name, both during the transition and opening phase and during the General Availability phase, it is essential to comply with the General Registration Regulations of the .ad domain. In addition to these regulations, you must also comply with the following additional requirements:

  • Generally accepted as legitimate.
  • Not detrimental to Andorra's image or Andorran interests, according to the Registry Operator's criteria.
  • Provided with the importance and meaning of the domain name it refers to.

How to register the domain during the transition and opening phase

During this first phase, which will extend from May 22 to October 16, 2024, you can register a .ad domain as follows:

For Public Institutions, Andorran brands or trade names:

  • It will be necessary to prove the status of Andorran Public Institution or owner/licensee of the registered trademark.
  • The application must be processed through an accredited registrar, such as Andorsoft.
  • The requested domains will be assigned, once validated, without having to wait for the end of the transition and opening period.

For other applicants who do not meet the above requirements:

  • The person or institution must provide documentation that proves their status (names of Andorran legal entities, holders of foreign trademarks without effect in Andorra, Andorran residents, holders of pre-existing domains in other TLDs, etc.).
  • The domain request can be made in two periods: from 22.05.2024 to 04.09.2024 and from 05.09.2024 to 16.10.2024.
  • It will be necessary to process the application through an accredited registrar.
  • The award will not be immediate and will depend on the corresponding order of priority. Requests will be created as pendingCreate domains and will need validation by the Registry. Priority will be determined by order of arrival without distinction between categories.
  • If you do not have any of the rights described above, you can also request a .ad domain without any priority ("landrush" category) from 05.09.2024 to 16.10.2024. These requests will have the lowest priority during this phase. If there is no identical priority request, the requested domain can be obtained. You can consult the details in the transition and opening regulations.

How to register the domain during the general availability phase

The General Availability phase will open on 22.10.2024 at 13:00 UTC and will continue indefinitely. During this phase, the domains will be created automatically in order of arrival ("first come, first served") without the need for prior validation by the Registry.

If you currently have a .ad domain, it will be necessary to have an accredited registrar. Andorsoft, as official registrar, will facilitate this transition process for already registered domains.

what changes

Requirements: As of May 22, the Andorran brand or business name requirement to have a .ad domain is removed.

Procedure: It will be necessary to have an accredited registrar like Andorsoft to register your .ad domain.

Duration: All domains will be registered for a period of one year, up to a maximum of 10 years.

Price: The price of the domain will be €25 per year + IGI.
